Construction Sector Code
The Amended Construction Sector Code (No 41287) gazetted in terms of Section 9 (1) of the B-BBEE Act (53 of 2003) on 01 December 2017 seeks to strengthen the industry’s long-term sustainability while encouraging greater inclusivity across the construction value chain, from contractors and consultants to suppliers and service providers.
ICT Sector Code
As technology continues to shape economic development, the Amended Information and Communication Technology Sector Code (No 40407) gazetted in terms of Section 9 (1) of the B-BBEE Act (53 of 2003) on 07 November 2016 encourages greater inclusion of historically disadvantaged individuals and businesses within the digital economy while supporting innovation and industry competitiveness.
Integrated Transport Sector Code
The Integrated Transport Sector Code (No 32511) gazetted in terms of Section 9 (1) of the B-BBEE Act (53 of 2003) on 21 August 2009 seeks to create a more representative and sustainable transport sector while improving access to opportunities throughout the industry’s supply chains and operational networks.
Road Freight Sub-Sector Code
Given the sector’s reliance on infrastructure access, fleet ownership and operational scale, the road freight sector code places emphasis on creating fair opportunities for smaller operators to participate meaningfully in the supply chain while encouraging long-term sustainability and competitiveness within the freight industry.
Amended Tourism Sector Code
The Amended Tourism Sector Code (No 39430) gazetted in terms of Section 9 (1) of the B-BBEE Act (53 of 2003) on 20 November 2015 recognises the sector’s potential to drive job creation and regional economic development, particularly in areas where tourism is a key contributor to local economies. The framework is designed to promote inclusive growth while maintaining South Africa’s competitiveness as a global travel destination.
Property Sector Code
The Amended Property Sector Code (No 40910) gazetted in terms of Section 9 (1) of the B-BBEE Act (53 of 2003) on 9 June 2017 focuses on expanding black ownership in property assets, increasing representation within property development and management structures, and supporting enterprise growth within the sector. It plays a key role in reshaping access to one of the economy’s most asset-intensive industries.
Financial Sector Code
A strong emphasis is placed on enterprise and supplier development, skills development within financial professions, and improving access to capital for emerging businesses. The Amended Financial Sector Code (No 41287) gazetted in terms of Section 9 (1) of the B-BBEE Act (53 of 2003) on 01 December 2017 aims to ensure that the financial sector contributes meaningfully to inclusive economic growth while maintaining stability and global competitiveness.
Agricultural Sector Code
The Amended AgriBEE Sector Code (No 41306) gazetted in terms of Section 9 (1) of the B-BBEE Act (53 of 2003) on 08 December 2016 places strong emphasis on skills development, sustainable farming practices and enterprise development within rural economies. By encouraging broader participation across the agricultural value chain, the framework aims to strengthen food security, rural development and long-term sector sustainability.
Public Sector Transport Sub-Sector Code
This code supports the growth of black-owned businesses, encourages workforce development and seeks to strengthen transformation throughout the public transport ecosystem, contributing to a more accessible, representative and sustainable sector.
Domestic Aviation Sub-Sector Code
The domestic aviation sector encourages greater participation of black-owned enterprises, increasing representation in ownership and management, and supporting skills development across the sector. It aims to foster a more inclusive and competitive aviation industry while creating sustainable opportunities throughout the domestic aviation value chain, including airlines, aviation service providers and related support businesses.
Defence Sector Code
By promoting increased black ownership, leadership participation, skills development, and enterprise growth, the Defence Sector Code (No 42021) gazetted in terms of Section 9 (1) of the B-BBEE Act (53 of 2013) on 12 April 2019 seeks to drive meaningful transformation. Recognising the strategic importance of the sector, the code encourages broader participation across the defence value chain while supporting sustainable economic development, innovation and a more inclusive defence industry.
Maritime Transport and Services Industry Sub-Sector Code
Recognising the sector’s vital role in trade, logistics and economic development, this code seeks to strengthen transformation throughout the maritime value chain while supporting a more inclusive, competitive and sustainable maritime industry.
Forestry Sector Code
The Amended Forest Sector Code (No. 40803), gazetted in terms of Section 9(1) of the B-BBEE Act, 2003 (Act No. 53 of 2003) on 21 April 2017, provides the transformation framework for South Africa’s forestry industry. The objective of the code is to strengthen transformation across forestry operations, timber production, processing and related activities, ensuring the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the sector.
Taxi Industry Sector Code
The Amended Taxi Industry Sector Code (No. 42440), gazetted in terms of Section 9(1) of the B-BBEE Act, 2003 (Act No. 53 of 2003) on 29 May 2019, establishes a transformation framework tailored to South Africa’s taxi industry. It supports the continued transformation of the taxi sector while encouraging sustainable growth and greater opportunities throughout the passenger transport value chain.
Marketing, Advertising & Communication Sector Code
The Amended Marketing, Advertising and Communication (MAC) Sector Code (No. 45387), gazetted in terms of Section 9(1) of the B-BBEE Act, 2003 (Act No. 53 of 2003) on 16 September 2021, provides the transformation framework for South Africa’s marketing, advertising and communication industry. Its objective is to transform the communications industry through greater representation and participation.
Rail Sub-Sector Code
The Amended Rail Sub-Sector Code (No. 43023), gazetted in terms of Section 9(1) of the B-BBEE Act, 2003 (Act No. 53 of 2003) on 31 January 2020 under the Transport Sector Code, provides a transformation framework for South Africa’s rail transport industry. It seeks to strengthen transformation throughout rail operations, infrastructure, engineering, maintenance and associated support services while contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable rail industry.
Defence Sector Code (No 42021)
